Children love any opportunity to dress up: Costumes, favorite colors, book characters, you name it! This year, Halloween is on a Friday and as a Jewish school, we choose to focus on other aspects of fall, treat giving, etc. After all, March is right around the corner which means Purim, Mishloach Manot baskets and you guessed it, costumes!

We embrace our families’ traditions and honor how they celebrate at home. With this in mind, the Early Learning Center is taking the last week of October and giving the festive time a unique twist by making it all about literacy, literature and Tikkun Olam.

Beginning on Oct. 27, our children will have daily chances to dress up and several opportunities to give back to the community.

On Monday, children get to wear animal prints and as they help Animals & Humans in Disaster with the donation of much-needed pet supplies.

Other dress-up themes include pajama day (Tuesday), superhero day (Wednesday), favorite color day (Thursday) and literary character day (Friday). Each day is also tied to a specific story ranging from John Lithgow’s “Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo” to Marcus Pfister’s “Rainbow Fish.”

Want to participate? Donations for the Tikkun Olam projects can be dropped off at the Early Learning Center.

Items needed:

  • Unopened animal supplies for Animals & Humans in Disaster
  • Diapers, water and non-perishable food for Friends of the Needy
