Millions of works of art were stolen from Jewish families during the Holocaust. Many are still missing. Join award-winning author and career prosecutor Adena J. Bernstein for a talk on her newly released book, Stolen Legacies: The Fight for Nazi-Looted Art, which traces the global effort to recover this stolen legacy across 13 countries — the restitution laws, the museum ethics fights, and the families still searching for what was taken from them.
Bernstein brings a rare dual lens to this history, as the granddaughter of two Holocaust survivors and as a prosecutor with more than 25 years of experience in international law enforcement. That combination of personal stake and legal expertise shapes both her research and her storytelling.
The morning includes a talk, audience Q&A and a book signing. Copies of Stolen Legacies will be available for purchase at the event. Her books are also available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and many major booksellers.
About the Speaker
Adena J. Bernstein is an author, prosecutor and speaker whose work explores Holocaust history, justice, restitution and cultural memory. Stolen Legacies: The Fight for Nazi-Looted Art, released earlier this year, received the Next Generation Indie Book Award (First Place – Current Events) and the National Indie Excellence Award (First Place – Current Events), and was a finalist in the International Book Awards (Art).
She is also the author of Living among the Dead, an award-winning biography and memoir recounting her grandmother’s Holocaust survival, translated into Spanish and Polish and used internationally through its companion Educator’s Guide.
Bernstein currently serves as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arizona, where she manages international extraditions and serves as Arizona’s Statewide Fentanyl Policy Strategist. She lives in Scottsdale with her husband.
