From Silence to Strength: The Power of Veteran Storytelling

A presentation by Rev. José Olagues

Tuesday, March 17 | 10-11:30 a.m.

Since 2013, “Healing of Memories” workshops have empowered over 500 veterans to address the invisible wounds of service through the transformative power of storytelling and community. These free, confidential retreats provide a safe space for veterans of all generations to release the burdens of the past and build a shared path toward a brighter future. Rev. José Olagues, a facilitator of these workshops, will share the impact that storytelling has on healing.

About the speaker

José Olagues has dedicated his entire adult life to the pursuit of education and service. His diverse professional journey began as an Army instructor during the Vietnam era and evolved into roles as a language teacher and a corporate training manager, where he notably designed human resources systems for the Guatemalan Telephone Company. In 1991, José transitioned from the corporate world to follow a spiritual calling, earning his ordination as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA) after attending the San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Today, he continues his mission of service as a certified facilitator for veterans, leading “Healing of Memories” and “Building Spiritual Strength” workshops to help former service members address emotional and spiritual wounds. He is a member of Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation.
