Tuesday, Feb. 15: ‘Surf, Sand and Schmaltz: Unusual Jewish Communities in Warm-Weather Locales’
Take a virtual journey to some of the most interesting and unique Jewish communities in the world. Travel writer/photographer Dan Fellner will discuss Jewish life and history in such places as Ecuador, Barbados, South Africa, Argentina, Malta and Costa Rica. Learn about the oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, an opulent Jewish Community Center just minutes away from the equator, and the only combination synagogue/surfing school in the world. This fast-paced presentation will shed light on some resilient and off-the-beaten-path Jewish communities and perhaps give you ideas for your next warm-weather vacation.
Dan Fellner is an eight-time Fulbright fellow, having taught journalism and communications at universities in Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Moldova, North Macedonia and Indonesia. He also is a freelance travel writer and photographer specializing in Jewish destinations. He has had more than 100 articles published in such publications as the Jerusalem Post, USA Today, Hadassah Magazine and the Arizona Republic. Dan has visited more than 120 countries and all 50 U.S. states.

Tuesdays from 10 – 11 a.m.
Until further notice, the sessions will be held on Zoom and are free. Tuesdays at the J is a group for individuals and couples ages 55-plus who meet weekly to enjoy presentations on a variety of topics. New members are always welcome and no membership is required to attend Tuesday at the J programs.
