Shock and Awe: Latin-American Art Before Columbus
A presentation by Phoenix Art Museum docent Patrick Ventura
Tuesday, Jan. 13 | 10-11:30 a.m.
Think about 3,000 years of Native Latin-American art, from 1500 BCE to 1500 CE, made before the Spanish arrived in the Americas. The art they left behind illustrates why the Spanish felt “shock and awe” when they encountered the surprisingly advanced cultures of the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas.
Tuesdays at the J begins at 10 a.m. with conversation and refreshments; the presentation starts at 10:30 a.m. Free with registration.
