Honey Bee Pot
What You'll Need:
- 2 1/2 oz. baby food jar, cleaned and with the labels removed
- Black and yellow poster paints
- Three black pipe cleaners
- One small white coffee filter
- Black marker or goggley eyes
How to Make It:
To make the bee's body, paint black and yellow strips vertically on the baby food jar. Ask a grownup to help you cut the coffee filter in half. These will be the wings. Bunch one end of the filter and wrap the end of a pipe cleaner around it to hold it securely. Repeat for the other half of the filter. Wrap the pipe cleaners around the rim of the jar so that the filters stand out on opposite sides like wings. Bend the third pipe cleaner in half and twist it around the rim so that the ends stand up in front like antennae. Draw on eyes with black marker or glue two goggley eyes. Fill the jar with honey and you have a wonderful, fun honey pot for dipping apples!
Beeswax Candles
What You'll Need:
- Two 8- x 8-inch sheets of beeswax
- Scissors
- Two 9-inch wicks
How to Make It:
Lay the wick along the edge of the sheet of beeswax so that there is a 1-inch overhang (this is the part of the wick you will light). Beeswax is very malleable at room temperature; if the beeswax feels stiff, warm it slightly with a hair dryer. With the palms of your hands, roll the wax around the wick very tightly and evenly. Smooth the seam and the bottom of the candle with your thumb to even it. pinch the wax around the wick to smooth it. Place your beeswax candles in holders for a fragrant Rosh Hashanah dinner table centerpiece.
