EVJCC Capital Campaign Update

by Ben Benedict, Capital Campaign Chairman

Good news! The EVJCC Capital Campaign is in full swing. Our community continues to support our exciting project. To date, the campaign has raised more than One Million Five Hundred Thousand dollars ($1,500,000.00). Over the past few weeks, we received two very significant gifts. Earlier in February, a family who wishes to remain anonymous made a lump sum donation of Fifty Thousand dollars ($50,000.00). And as recently as this week, Ms. Sheila Schwartz of Phoenix, Arizona made a most generous pledge of One Hundred Thousand dollars ($100,000.00). To all of you who have committed to our campaign, thank you very much!

Although our Campaign continues to gain momentum, we have a long way to go to reach our goal of Four Million Seven Hundred Thousand dollars ($4,700,000.00). With the continued hard work of the Capital Campaign Committee, the dedicated staff and volunteers of the EVJCC and the support from the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix our goal of a permanent home for the EVJCC will soon become a reality.

For information about volunteering on the Capital Campaign or how to make your pledge, please contact Ilene Blau at (480) 897-0588 or visit our wonderful website at www.evjcc.org.

Summer Stock 2005

Summer Stock is back for it's 6th season! This summer's production is "Lady Cries Murder", an uproarious comedy set in the fabulous 1940's complete with hard boiled detectives, femme fatales, radio writers, a big boss, a damsel in distress, a henchman, a sidekick and more wise crackin' mirthful mystery than you can shake a fedora at. Now mix in some singin' and dancin' to those famous big band melodies and you've got Summer Stock 2005!

Summer Stock is an after-camp theatrical experience that offers a unique, non-competitive ensemble for children entering Kindergarten on up. Julie & Mitch Solomon are directing again, and if you were there for any of their summer productions, "Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory", "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown", "Pinocchio", "Snow White" or "The Wizard of Oz" you know that this will be an incredible experience with acting, dancing, singing, sets, lights, costumes and that special East Valley JCC twist. It should be another great summer of fun, rehearsing, creating and performing. So shake the mothballs out of your trench coat and get ready for some actin', singin', dancin' and a whole lot of fun!

Placement auditions will be held on Thursday, June 16th starting at 3pm. Bring your imagination, your loudest voice and get ready to have some fun! Rehearsals begin Monday June 20th and are held on Mondays & Thursdays with additional Wednesday rehearsals from 3:00 - 5:00pm. Two performances will be held on Sunday, July 31st. Enrollment in the JCC Summer Camp is not a requirement.

Cost is $155 JCC Members or $175 Non JCC Members (10% 2nd child discount). There is an additional costume fee of $20 per person. Call Lisa for more information 480-897-0588.
