AROUND THE CENTER

For Women Only: "Unwanted Inheritance"

Dr. Coral A. Quiet, an expert in genetic counseling, will discuss the importance of family history as predictor for cancers and in particular breast and ovarian cancers. She will explain how genetic counseling benefits families who want to learn whether there is a hereditary link to cancers in the family and what steps you can take to reduce risks for yourself and your children. These links are even more pronounced in the Ashkenazi population.

Dr. Quite, a radiation oncologist, is the Medical Director of the Cancer Genetic Risk Assessment and Cancer Prevention Program at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center. She is also the Medical Advisor and Spokesperson for the American Cancer Society as well as Medical Director of the Arizona Institute for Breast Health.

The "For Women Only" Series presents this important program for every woman who is concerned with the statistical risks associated with these cancers. Scheduled at the East Valley JCC, 1521 S. Indian Bend Road in Chandler, on Tuesday, March 23 at 6:45 p.m. There is no charge for admission. Refreshments available. Please call (480) 897-0588 to RSVP.

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Call Cynthia or Diane at the JCC for registration information. 480-897-0588.

Clifford's Party a Success!

Clifford's Birthday party, Scholastic Book Fair, and pancake breakfast were a great success. Given that this was our first event of this kind, we were very pleased with the results.

The food was good and plentiful children's activities were enjoyed by all who participated, and photos with Clifford and silhouettes were very popular. Of course, the biggest hit was Clifford, himself, who delighted the children with his presence.

As in all large undertakings, the help of staff and volunteers was invaluable. Particularly notable was the weeks and weeks of effort that went into the planning and execution of this event by administrative assistant, Diane Umeda. Her contribution to the success of this event was immeasurable.

Our grateful thanks to everyone who helped - Sandra Johnson, Eric Kerr, Jonathon Andell, Allen Benedict, Kai Umeda, Marge Bowers, Sean Garrett, Amy Bley, Leigh Bauman, Keelan Bodow, Aron Weiss, Glenn Davis, and George Jacobson and to all of you who attended.
