AROUND THE CENTER

Bowling for Bucks

Fifty-five bowlers and their "cheerleaders" arrived at Kyrene Lanes on Saturday, Feb. 17 to raise dollars for the East Valley JCC. And raise dollars they did! According to Jill Barenbaum, the annual event chairperson, "This was the best bowl-a-thon yet." Everyone had a great time with the altered format of two games. More than forty revelers congregated at Nellos' for post bowling eats and drinks. Congrats to Jill, all the winners, and all the participants who made the JCC a winner!

Super Sunday

Super Sunday is one of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix's largest campaign events of the year, with hundreds of volunteers from the entire community.       Facilitated by Linda Feldman from the bureau of Jewish Education, those assembled blessed and lit Shabbat candles, said kiddush & ha-motsi and enjoyed a delicious kosher Shabbat meal.
Children went home with a Shabbat kit containing a challah, challah cover, kiddush cup and candlesticks, which they had made as part of a special focus on the Sabbath.

Purim

Purim is just around the corner and plans are underway for a festive celebration at the JCC's schools. Our staff will be presenting their hilarious rendition of the Purim shpiel for the children's enjoyment and, this year, all staff will come to work in costume. The revelry will be further enhanced with Purim songs, hamentashen and graggers made by each class.

Summer Fun is Coming

The East Valley JCC Summer Camp Shalom 2001 begins registration on Monday, April 2. The theme for Shalom 2001 focuses on the ties that bind the peoples of Israel and the United States. Another summer highlight will feature a reunion of past JOT and East Valley JCC campers. Wolfman Jack, his cub, and an enthusiastic Camp reunion committee will plan a host of great activities to celebrate twenty-eight years of camp in the East Valley and the last year of camp in our present location.
Camp dates are June 4 - August 10. Call Lisa at (480) 8987-0588 for more information.

Summer Stock 2001

Summer Stock is back and this year's show will be better than ever! Summer Stock is an after camp theatrical experience that offers a unique, non-competitive ensemble for children entering Kindergarten thru 8th grade. This year's production will be taking on the old time favorite "Snow White", but if you saw last year's production of "The Wizard of Oz" you know that "Snow White" will be a show like you've never seen before! Each child will have the opportunity to act, dance, sing, and work on the set, lights and costumes.
Rehearsals are on Monday's and Thursday's (added Wednesday rehearsals for selected roles). Your child does not have to attend the JCC Summer Day Camp Program to participate in Summer Stock 2001. Placement auditions begin on Monday June 18th at 3:00pm. Rehearsals begin Thursday June 20th. Dress rehearsal is Friday August 3rd and performances are Sunday August 5th at 1:00pm & 6:00pm. Bring your imagination, your loudest voice and get ready to have some fun! For more information contact Lisa at (480) 897-0588.
